Another Representation of Student Debt as a Percentage of Total Personal Debt

Several days ago, I posted several pie charts showing student-loan debt as a percentage of total personal debt in 2003 and in 2013.

Business Insider has represented the same federal data as a bar graph of the first- and third-quarter data from each year between 2003 and 2014.

What this graph allows one to see is that even as total personal debt declined following the Great Recession, student-loan debt continued to increase and that the increase in student-loan debt has been a major factor in the increases in total debt over the past year or so.
