New Report Highlights the Decline in State Support for Public Higher Education

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has released a new report titled Years of Cuts Threaten to Put College Out of Reach for More Students. Prepared by Michael Mitchell and Michael Leachman, the report shows that the decline in state support for public colleges and universities was exacerbated by the Great Recession of 2008, but it has not rebounded to pre-Recession levels during the economic recovery. In fact, in some states, the reductions in state funding have extended across the entire period from 2008 to 2015.

Several of the charts included in the report are very revealing:

Percentage Decline in State Funding

Percentage Change in 2014-2015
